and I mean that literally. I lifted 1200 pounds of peat and manure not once, but twice (ok, 1.5 times) to get our garden patches properly amended. I have to say oh my god was it hard work. By the end I was just dragging the bags and barely able to lift them. Then I raked them all across the plots so that Josh could till them in. Yay for the rototiller! I came inside for a well deserved break and some hot chocolate.
We dug nine 100 sq foot patches for the vegetables and the perennials. We also got the snazzy compost bin pictured in the back of the photo. Finally our seedlings can go outside except for the fact that it might snow on Monday. That's right...I said SNOW. sigh
Dare I mention that it was in the 80s in Kyoto? Sadly I go back to SF tomorrow where it is in the 60s.
